Tele ran: The Governor of Hong Kong to the Secretary of state for

the Colonies.

(Received Colonial Office 9.20.a.m.29th September 1915)

m

September 29th Hannibal has been informed yesterday by Conference of Steamship lines that they cannot carry cargo for him any longer. This action is due to telegram from ortleman, Secretary, London

Conference Committee, received September 25th by

Peninsular and Oriental Company in reply to private

letter dated August 7th from Hewett. Tele raga runs as follows: "with the exception of Arnold British

Government is of opinion that should not trade with shippers referred to also Hannibal. Act accordingly. Arnold officially recognized British(?)" ends. Hannibal has been recognized in Hong Kong as a British

firm. He has recently taken British partner and I am

satisfied that he has severed all connexion with Wendt

and Company. y only objection is that his Canton agent is Huygen Dutchman who is also the Canton representative of Wendt but he is taking steps to replace him as soon as possible by a British agent I trust therefore that His Majesty's Government will authorize cargo to be shipped for Hannibal by Conference

lines.
